Frequently asked questions

Straight answers about second-life balls, grading, delivery and payment.

Second-life balls and grading

What is a second-life lake ball?

It is a golf ball that has been professionally recovered from a lake and made available to play again. Fish Food Golf then inspects and grades the balls we sell according to cosmetic condition.

Do you recover the balls yourselves?

No. We source professionally recovered lake balls and personally inspect and grade them before sale.

Are lake balls the same as new balls?

No. They have been previously used and may show cosmetic signs of that use. Our grading guide explains what to expect. We do not represent second-life balls as new.

How do your grades work?

Best of the Best is our highest cosmetic tier for selected premium models. Grade A is the strongest standard cosmetic condition, Grade B shows more visible markings or wear, and Dirty Dozen balls are the scruffiest playable option. Please read the full grading guide before choosing.

Can Grade A balls have logos or pen marks?

Yes. Grade A may include logos, a genuinely minor identification mark or a single alignment line. The overall cosmetic condition should still be strong.

Will every ball look identical?

No. Second-life balls naturally vary. Each should fit its stated grade, but markings, shade and signs of previous use will differ from ball to ball.

Do the grades guarantee performance?

No. The grades describe cosmetic condition. We cannot guarantee distance, spin, feel or scoring performance because those are influenced by the ball model, its history, storage, the golfer and the shot.

Brands, models and stock

Which brands and models do you stock?

Stock changes with each batch. The Square shop shows the brands, models, grades and quantities currently available.

Will every ball be from the same model year or generation?

Not necessarily. Unless a specific model year or generation is stated, golf balls may include a mix of different model years or generations. All balls are graded by condition and sold according to the product description shown.
